We have a very special treat for our readers this week in the form of our first ever guest blogger!

“How
much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice.” Hello avid HLM
readers. Since Christmas and college finals are fast approaching, I
wanted to take a few minutes to share with you all what I am grateful
for this holiday season. First and foremost, I'm grateful to God for
giving me a supportive family and for the means to continue my
education. I have been out of school for 10 years so getting back into
the groove, my first semester, has been quite an adventure. I'm actually
surprised at how well I've taken to being a student again. I earned my
Associates fresh out of high school so this time around, instead of
being a green 18 year old, I feel somewhat seasoned and my attitude is
more professional; my grades and study habits are also vastly superior
to what they once were. I can remember first starting out, when I was
younger, and seeing how determined the older students were; they wanted
it more and now I understand why. Like them, I now have the chance to
help my family and to be a role model for our little mister. I’m also
discovering just how socially inclined I really am; I’ve enjoyed meeting
new people and interacting with other students. I do miss the extra
time with my wife and son, but Kate helps to remind me that the end
justifies the means. And that is just one of the many reasons I would
like to thank God for my wife. She helps me remember to keep my head up
and keep moving forward when things get tough or when I feel that I have
failed. She has picked up the slack at home with our son. She also
helps to lift my spirit with our cheerful holiday decorations so that
when I pull in the drive from a long night of classes and see our
Christmas tree shining in the window, I know that I am home. I'm also
grateful for our smart little boy. It may just be me, but it seems like
every morning that I get to spend with him he says a new word or teaches
me something and completely blows my mind. I am so proud of him and I
hope that by my going back to school, one day he will be just as proud
of me. Not having a strong father figure myself growing up, has taught
me to appreciate the trials and hard work needed to lead my son and to
help him become a strong man of God.
Thank
you, to all of Kate's awesome readers for having me. Faliz Navidad,
Mo'adim Lesimkha, Chena tova, Joyeux Noel, Merry Christmas and Happy
Holidays from our house to yours.
